Growing up I always thought of myself as part of the Democratic Party, even not knowing exactly what that meant. Now attending college I am finally old enough to fully understand what that means. If you were to look up the "democrat" in the dictionary you may run across something that sounds like, "a person who believes in the political or social equality of all people," and I couldn't have said it better myself.
I am a democrat, I believe that everyone should have equal opportunities throughout not only our great nation but, other great nations as well. People of the Democrat party support right liberalism and wish for peace and happiness (not in a ghandi way per say) for the United States. We know however what is possible and aren't delusional of or instance the people who live in the world. We know when to stop the whole world peace game because, of our own country in danger. Unfortunately, this is a dog eat dog place we're living in and we aren't delusional of this fact.
The legal system is a great deal of importance too me. If there were no laws then everyone and everything would be in kaos all of the time. People need structure in this world or they may lose their minds with curiosity.
After looking through all of these facts on being a Democrat I got a little deeper into it. Such as the broad word and realized that not only am I of the democratic party, I am of the right liberals. Which basically means that I do believe in the equal opportunities of everyone, although not to the point of say legalizing marijuana. I believe in the structure of our country and also the independence that structure lets us have; which is a lot!

"they say"
In the article "they say" it has made an impact on me. The reason why is because, I myself have thought these same thoughts. Why do these "people" say these things. Just because they think this way does it automatically make others think the same way? I personally believe that "they" is society in general. Society has got especially children thinking what is right and what is wrong. For example when the subject of getting tattoos of say a Nike check is "cool" and helps with self identity when me myself thought when I was younger of getting the Famous Stars and Straps F tattooed on me. It was society telling me that it was cool. Or for instance "The Simpsons" reference and how people could think or compare themselves with him and his personality. People in society using the phrase "doe!" is a perfect example. All in all I think this article was very informative of how society thinks and quite frankly how I think.

Word Criticism
In the article "Summary: Theory for Beginners", Michael Ryan talks about words and the effects and different meanings that they can have in society. As Ryan significally states in the article on page 163, "In a sense, words change things by influencing how we know them and what we know about them." A great example that he gave was that of the word "terriost" or "terrorism". The fact that what we think of when we hear the word is strictly Islam. What makes the islamic terriosts different from a caucasion male who shoots up an entire school? I personally agree with Michael Ryan and his ideas and theories on the subject. I think that he gives his thoughts and views in a straight forward, "this is how i am and think" sort of way. His thoughts on evolution also had an impact on me because, I too do feel the same way about evolution and the way it reflects on wording and language.
